UTR Needs Your… Teamwork!

posted: September 11th, 2014 by Dave Trout

Having a house full of kids has made me keenly aware of the world of Linny, Tuck, and Ming-Ming.  These three talking animals go on adventures to rescue other animals in need.  As they transform into the "Wonderpets," they sing an anthem important for every kid to learn: "What's gonna work? Teamwork!"  It turns out it's an imporant lesson for grown-ups too.  Though not the easiest step for me, today is the day where I officially ask for your help and teamwork to help Under The Radar thrive in the years ahead.

Two key events have helped to bring me to this place.  First, in June, my program assistant Kelly left her post to focus on being a stay-at-home mom.  The craziest thing wasn't her departure as much as the news that followed: due to a budget shortfall in our ministry, we would not be replacing Kelly's vacant position.  She was the only staff person at UTR besides myself, and now we just lost 25+ hours per week of productivity - a major adjustment for UTR.  Second, in July, I had my annual progress review with my boss.  One of the areas for improvement for our ministry is to see a growth in overall traffic.  Our website analytics indicate that visits to our site have plateaued for most of the last 12 months.  So, one of the goals my boss gave me was to find ways to see a 20% growth in web traffic by next summer.

These two bits of news - less staff support and the goal for growth - offer a daunting challenge.  Yet, I believe we can do this - emphasis on the word we!  So far there hasn't been an official way for UTR listeners and supporters to volunteer, but that day is now upon us.  With YOU on our team, we will not only avoid taking steps backwards, but I believe we can hit new heights.

In just a few days, UTR is going to launch a new volunteer program, and for the first time ever officially invite YOU "backstage" into the infrastructure of the program. This will be accessible to everyone - no matter your skill or commitment level.  You might be willing to work hours on a special project... or you might only be willing to offer us 10 seconds of time.  We can use your help either way.  We will also roll out some rewards for the various levels of commitment, so you'll get your back scratched too.  Be on the lookout for our volunteer program and consider now how you might be able to get involved.

What's gonna work? Teamwork!
