You missed Lions & liars by Sho Baraka.
but at least you didn’t put under the radar bands like U2 and switchfoot this time…
Great picks, good job!
Good addition Matt. BTW, since you’ve mentioned this a few other times, UTR is not limited to lesser-known artists. It’s more the SONGS… so it might be a B-side under-appreciated song from an established artist. Our critics have hardly any parameters, but are finding the top “Gourmet Music” in any genre or from any artists.
I take your point (however I challenge you to find ANY under-appreciated song by U2!)
This has been a great year for new music in my opinion. As a member of the panel, although traditional “under the radar” artists like Gungor and Sandra McCracken have released great albums, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the authenticity of the lyrics from some of the mainstream artists I highlighted. Certainly Sanctus Real isn’t “under the radar” but this new record is “gourmet” in my opinion, as is Robbie Seay Band, Starfield, Adie and Jimmy Needham. All worthy of mention for writing and singing lyrics that I can relate to as a Christian without using cliche’ lyrics, which is very refreshing.
Nice picks. I have been listening to Robbie Seay Band for several years now, so thanks for giving them some well deserved props. Check out Phillip Larue. I appreciate what he is doing.
The title of the Eastern Block album is Past Palace, not Past Place.
Not sure how Tenth Avenue North or Sanctus Real are under the radar. Plus they are VERY commercial. Kevin and Amber’s lists feature a lot of music that is too market driven and calculated for my tastes. Otherwise, a lot of good stuff. Sandra and Andy in particular, though the other Andy (Osenga) put out a solid disc as well. I’m glad we can all have different opinions. My Favorite of the first half is “Old Angel” by the Lost Dogs and it isn’t particularly close. Love the Fair album as well. Those are wonderful examples of Christian thought without any sign of cliche.
